Kaktus Virus x

video, silent, 24 min, 2005

This is a two screen video installation.

On one screen a person with a spiky headband (the kaktus?) is seen in a state of pain, which manifests itself through dramatic facial expressions, which gradually intensify until the perfectly styled face seems to melt away as the tears wipe through the layers of make up.

At the same time on the other screen the seemingly cause of the pain is visible, a green jelly like block is being cut and shredded to pieces, first carefully with a knife, then the intensity builds up until hands in plastic gloves churn and rip the slimy mass apart.

An attempt to make the invisible – an unknown Virus X – visible through its manifestation of pain and the frustration of not finding it in the flesh a cause for aggression.
